A repaint of the excellent Asobo/Microsoft/Orbx de Havilland Canada DHC-4 Caribou in the original colours of the US Army's Golden Knights parachute display team. Officially designated a YAC-1A, Caribou c/n 5 was actually the second aircraft to be allocated the tail number 57-3079 after the first example, c/n 3, crashed during testing. It was delivered to the US Army in August 1958 and handed over to the Army Aviation Board at Fort Rucker, Alabama where it was used for test and evaluation purposes alongside sistership 73080. In 1967 it was officially transferred to the US Air Force's Logistics Command under Operation Red Leaf, but as a prototype it remained assigned to the US Army. It received this striking black and gold livery in January 1975 when it was selected as a jumpship for the Golden Knights, one of an eventual four Caribous to support the team though only two were painted in this particular livery. The aircraft returned to regular service at Fort Bragg in 1978 before returning to the team for a second time in 1985; it was withdrawn from military service a year later and moved to the Army Transportation Museum at Fort Eustis, Virginia where it remains on diplay today.
